Hi there we have 2 male Prairie Dogs. Thedore and Jesse.

They Are Both 7 years old... Until just before christmas last year Jesse was always the bigger of the two but since then he has wasted down to about 1lb 15oz as opposed to Theodore at about 2lb 7oz - which is about where Jesse was. He still seems to eat ok and drink normally, he still comes out and runs around not as strong as he used to be he used to be able to run up a full flight of stairs, but now just mooches around the floor.

He still likes to snugle for hours,And still occasionally yips.

But his bowels and water seem to be ok. But has just gotten thinner and weaker..

As we are in the U.K It's not much good going to the vets, because they dont really understand them at all.

Anybody Any Clues please..

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi there,

My older Prairie Dog recently became suddenly ill. I took him to vet and they ran blood tests. It turned out to be kidney failure. Not saying that is your p.d.'s issue but I'd recommend blood tests at the very least. See if you can contact a wildlife rehabilitator in your area (or find one on the web) who can recommend a good vet. Best of luck.
