Hi everybody !!

I would like to know some reasons why 2 females can't stay together.

One new female after a fight now stay together and they groomin.

But with the other female the new one makes noise with her teeth ( I'm sorry I don't know the right term in English ), her tail becomes bigger and she tries to bite the other female.

Do you think it would be in this way forever or not ?

What can we do ?

We make them meet outside the cage , when one is in cage and the other is out they kiss each other but together outside the new female becomes aggressive.

Thank you so much

Sara

Hi Sara,

Females can be quite vicious with other prairie dogs, because of territorial issues and the instinct to protect the nest.  In order for integration to be successful, it must be done completely on neutral grounds.  Introducing them into a new cage with nothing familiar in a different room is generally met with success, and in some instances an extreme measure would be to place them into a cage together and immediately take them outdoors.

A prairie dog in the wild will allow non-family to enter if danger is imminent, but the moment the threat is gone, they will be chased out of the burrow.

Always remember that neutral grounds is key in integration.

Hope this helps,
