"Wind Beneath my Wings"

A Little Prairie Dog Angel

High up in the courts of heaven today
a little prairie dog angel waits;
with the other angels she will not play,
but she sits alone at the gates.
"For I know my mom will come" says she,
"and when she comes she will call for me."

The other angels pass her by
As they hurry toward the throne,
And she watches them with a wistful eye
as she sits at the gates alone.
"But I know if I just wait patiently
that someday my mom will call for me."

And her mom, down on earth below,
as she sits in her easy chair,
forgets sometimes, and whispers low
to the prairie dog who is not there.
And the little prairie dog angel cocks her ears
and dreams that her mom's voice she hears.

And when at last her mom waits
outside in the dark and cold,
for the hand of death to open the door,
that leads to those courts of gold,
she will hear a sound through the gathering dark,
a little prairie dog angel's bark.

The following poem was originally written for a canine companion, but it works for prairie dogs, too.

My Gift to Jesus

I wish someone had given little Jesus
a prairie dog as loyal and loving as mine
to sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
and adore Him for being divine.

As our Lord grew to manhood His own faithful prairie dog
would have followed Him all through the day
while He preached to the crowds and made the sick well
and knelt in the garden to pray.

It is sad to remember that Christ went away
to face death alone and apart
with no tender prairie dog following close behind
to comfort His masters heart.

And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn
how happy He would have been
as His prairie dog kissed Him and yahoo'd his delight
for the one who died for all men.

Well, the Lord has a prairie dog now, I just sent Him mine...
My sweet prairie dog so dear to me
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone
knowing they're in eternity.

Weep not for me though I am gone into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest.
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed.
For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.

My Goodbye To Jenna

"The Circle of Love"
(to Dianne & Jenna from & by john_s)

Our biggest accomplishments cannot override
The beauty God has given us, not merely to survive,
But to bask in the glory of His creations
Both large and small -
They are ALL His achievements
He allows us to adopt
As our own.

For the beauty He has given
Is truly a gift no man can emulate,
And to be selected to receive His gifts
Is surely not by accident.

One very special gift
Is the ability to love,
And to accept His gift
In hopes we may do it justice
In His eyes above.

As the garden of love
Is cultivated and grows,
The love returned
Will be many fold.

As we are blessed with His gift
To love and protect,
To provide and care,
There will come a day when
That gift becomes a mirror
That will reflect itself in our eyes,
For us to see the love we give
Back in return.

And the day will come
When that gift touches our heart,
And gives us back
The love we give,
In return.

Let us never forget,
The love we inspire
Will last us a lifetime,
However long or short.
But let us also not forget
The love we create,
Will never fade
But forever live on.

As Jenna mirrors your love for her,
In her eyes and in her heart,
And as you allow her the grace and honor
To break free of her earthly ties,
You will empower her to move on
To pastures that will stay green,
Forever.

And as you feverishly grant her permission
To cross that Bridge,
You will be returning the gift that was given you,
Embellished in love and adorned
With the most precious and sacred part
Of your self and your soul.

And God will know,
As He takes her into His loving arms,
That His gift to you has been sculpted and fashioned
By your love and tears,
And has therefore been returned to Him
Bearing much greater value than before.

With the love she carries back to her Father
Even more than from the start,
He will be pleased,
You will be blessed,
And His love will be mirrored back to you,
In His eyes and in His heart.
