Prairie Dog Lover's Burrow

Midwest Prairie Dog Shelter - Outreach * Rescue * Advocacy

2009

Ten more black tailed prairie dogs arrived at the Midwest Prairie Dog Shelter in 2009.  Raoul, Bambi, Ginger, Rusty, Cujo and Rambo arrived from Michigan.  Raoul passed away peacefully in November to liver cancer.  He was such a sweet little old man.  Rusty, Cujo and Rambo need to be neutered ASAP.  The girls are housed together and are doing very well.  The boys, however, are being housed separately for the time being.

Joey and Bucky were born earlier this year, and also arrived from Michigan.  They were in a pet store and a kind woman purchased them with the hopes of returning them to their natural habitat.  She was directed to me, and after a trip to the shelter, she decided that this would be the best place for the boys.  They are sweet, but have never been handled, so one day at a time, we're making progress with gentling.

Esther came to me from Illinois as Sylvester.  One peek and I realized "he" was a she.  She was also born earlier this year and sold in a pet store.  She is very sweet and has been integrated with a very happy Magnum (aka Mister Magoo).

Another little girl will be coming from Ohio as soon as she can be transported here.  She was also born earlier this year.
